Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) suggested Monday that domestic violence by men has increased due to U.S. joblessness. Now, I understand that the stress of being unemployed can lead to confrontations and fights within families, but to say that this bill needs to pass so that domestic violence can be quelled is laughable, even for Democrats.
Reid, speaking in the midst of a Senate debate over whether to pass a $15 billion package meant to spur job creation, appeared to argue that joblessness would lead to more domestic violence.
"I met with some people while I was home dealing with domestic abuse. It has gotten out of hand," Reid said on the Senate floor. "Why? Men don't have jobs."
So, according to Reid’s logic, we must spend billions more dollars on a do nothing bill that will only add to our deficit while providing, at most, temporary jobs that will be gone soon after the appropriation is spent… So that way domestic abuse will end?!?! Why not just spend a few million dollars on increased resources to better thwart and prosecute domestic violence cases? That way, we save billions and domestic violence gets some well needed resources assigned directly to it.
I’m guessing that when your trying to sell a turd, you advertise it as anything but a turd. Why not say it will make the sun shine brighter and cure cancer? Instead of arguing the perceived merits of the bill, they try and hide the garbage by disguising it as helping with domestic violence. I’m waiting for the Democrats to throw in that old yarn about how it’s “for the children.”
I love his comment about how recently domestic violence “…has gotten out of hand,” like there is some acceptable level of domestic violence that can be overlooked before something needs to be done. What an idiot.
