NetBlender Releases YouChug.com in Glorious Celebration of the Release of Beerfest – The Movie
Alexandria, VA (PRWEB) August 27, 2006
As students return to college campuses nationwide this weekend, they are faced with the perennial question that has plagued academia for centuries: what drinking games will be the rage this semester? NetBlender
Coinciding with the release of Beerfest, a new comedy that elevates the sport of beer drinking to Olympian levels, NetBlender introduces a new take on the beer drinking game – YouChug.com. YouChug.com, currently in beta release, turns any DVD into a social drinking game.
“TV show drinking games are a tradition dating at least as far back as The Bob Newhart Show, where fans would have a drink anytime a character said ‘Hi, Bob!’ which, of course, was very often,” writes television critic Alan Sepinwall. “The idea is that every show has its basic clichés, and fans should learn to enjoy and embrace them, and one way to do that is to drink heavily whenever you spot one of them.”
YouChug.com blends the watching of a movie or TV show with the fun of playing a drinking game. Players simply insert a favorite DVD into their computer and visit http://www.youchug.com. The website prompts the players to enter their names and YouChug does the rest. During playback of the DVD, YouChug randomly commands one of the players to drink, as in, “Sam, Chug!” Sam is then required to chug his drink.
The full release of YouChug will gather additional information such as school affiliation, type of beverage consumed, DVDs watched and more, and publish this data on YouChug.com. Future versions will include features that are specific to certain shows and introduce other media-rich enhancements to the TV drinking game genre.
“We’re creating a new form of entertainment – Blended Entertainment – and introducing it in a number of different ways. A drinking game is a great way to extend the enjoyment of watching a DVD. That is what NetBlender is about – extending the value of the DVD medium,” says John Harrington, NetBlender CEO.
What NetBlender is not about is excessive or underage drinking. “The game was created for responsible adults who know their limits when it comes to drinking alcohol. It does not promote irresponsible drinking behavior,” states Alessandro Santarelli, NetBlender’s Chief Responsibility Officer. “YouChug participants must be of legal drinking age if they intend to use alcohol. But anyone can play YouChug with non-alcoholic beverages as well.”
Beerfest, which hits theaters nationwide today, is a new comedy that proves revenge, like beer, is best served cold. When American brothers Todd and Jan Wolfhouse (Erik Stolhanske and Paul Soter) are sent to Germany on a mission to spread their grandfather’s ashes at Oktoberfest, they stumble upon a super-secret, centuries-old, underground beer games competition — Beerfest — the Olympics of beer drinking.
“What better time to introduce YouChug.com than on a weekend in which millions of people will watch a movie that celebrates drinking beer. And besides, it’s a funny movie,” said Harrington.

About Beerfest
The Broken Lizard comedy group returns to the big screen in a new comedy that proves revenge, like beer, is best served cold. At Beerfest, the brothers receive a less than warm welcome from their German cousins, the Von Wolfhausens, who shun Todd and Jan, slander their heritage, and worst of all, drink them under the table.
Vowing to return in a year to defend their family honor, the Wolfhouse boys assemble a ragtag dream team of beer drinkers and gamers: Barry Badrinath (Jay Chandrasekhar), a consummate skills player with a dark past; Phil Krundle (Kevin Heffernan) AKA “Landfill,” the one-man chugging machine; and Charlie “Fink” Finklestein (Steve Lemme), the lab tech with a Masters degree in All Things Beer. With the inspiration of their Great Gam Gam (Cloris Leachman) and the support of her caretaker, Cherry (Mo’Nique), this “Magnificent Five” train relentlessly, using their hearts, minds and livers to drink faster, smarter and harder than they ever have before.
