Perhaps it’s because of the end of a three day weekend, or perhaps that I haven’t had much sleep, but making the rounds on the boards just now has put me in a ‘grumpier than usual’ mood. I’m really tired of having argued for weeks with people out of state that just don’t seem to understand or comprehend what it is that Arizona’s SB1070 is really about.
It started this afternoon when I began responding to a post on ABCNEWS. Some of the people responding were absolutely clueless in their comments and reactions to this legislation. Enough was enough. I deleted the comment and reached the conclusion that people who are so misguided and out of touch with this bill and the why and what it contains are either professional pot-stirrers, or idiots (libiots in this case).
Now, I hate to resort to name calling. I know on many posts I’ve affectionately referred to our illustrious POTUS as America’s mistake, NObama, empty suit, etc., but those are tongue in cheek references embedded in my ‘oh so obvious’ tongue in cheek posts. But this epidemic has reached the point where I decided to create a Jeff Foxworthy-esque list of SB1070 arguments that simply call the pot-stirrers out. There have been SO many opportunities for SB1070 critics to read the bill and actually think for a bit about what it includes. So, if after this amount of time you still don’t get it, then I’m sorry, but you are an idiot!
(Imagine me doing my best Jeff Foxworthy impression)
If you think SB1070 is an anti immigration bill, you might be an idiot. Ask any level headed, responsible person who has actually read and understands the bill if this is aimed at stopping all immigration and they will look at you as if you were, in fact, an idiot. Having worked in IT the last 2 decades, I’ve had the pleasure of working with many immigrants that came here with work visa’s and actively pursued the American dream. Some took the final plunge and became citizens. All of them are more than welcomed by the fine people of Arizona. We are a state of ‘immigrants’. Most of us came to Arizona from some place else (I happen to be a native). We welcome any and all people to this wonderful state… as long as you do it legally!
If you think SB1070 fosters racial profiling, you might be an idiot. Even before the ink dried on this legislation, the race-baiters were coming out in full force ready to decry the racist elements in this bill. Their argument is based on their perception that this would foster racial profiling. My response: personal prejudices and beliefs can be fostered in ANY law. If police personnel have harbored these thoughts before, then they have already been applied. I would hope that any and all behavior like that is dealt with swiftly and harshly, and that those people would have already been weeded out of the police community. To think that this is suddenly going to turn the entire police force into racists is just idiotic.
If you think SB1070 requires you to carry special ‘papers’, you might be an idiot. This to me is the most laughable language that the libiots use. There are no special papers or documents if you are a citizen of the US. There are no special travel papers required to visit or drive through Arizona. You simply need to show a drivers license or state issued ID if you are pulled over or involved in a crime. What’s that? You don’t have any of those? Oh, well what are you doing out in public without any ID? I guess you deserve to be detained and held up while the police try and verify who you are… citizen or not! Oh, your not a citizen but are here on a work Visa? Did you know that it is federal law to carry your green card or other documentation with you 24/7! That fact there usually quiets them down and they immediately resort to the race card when confronted with that fact.
Like I said, I’m sorry for having resorted to name calling, but if you still cannot see this bill for what it is, an illegal immigration enforcement bill, then I’m afraid you are, in fact, an idiot. Now if you’ll excuse me I’m going to try and get some sleep in hopes that this mood will pass.
